Natalia Gavrilan graduates from the Moldova Academy in professor Vladimir Dragosh’s class. She is the winner of several awards in international competitions such as Mikhail Glinka Contest, Francisco Viñas Singing Contest, Alexei Stârcea Contest.

 

​During the study in the Academy, she takes part in the master-classes of Irina Arkhipova and in the concerts seria “Irina Arkhipova Presents”. After she graduated with honors from the Moldova Music Academy, she enters The Teatro alla Scala Academy of Lyric Opera, where improving professional excellence during the 2 years with the masters of world scene: Leyla Gencer, Luciana Serra, Riccardo Muti, Luiggi Alva, Leo Nucci.

 

Since the year 2000 Natalia Gavrilan continues collaboration with the following theatres and festivals: Teatro alla Scala (Milano), The Metropolitan Opera (New York), San Carlos (Lissabon), Opera in Catalunia, Il Teatro Massimo (Palermo), Il Teatro Petruzelli (Bari), Il Teatro Politeama (Lecce), Il Teatro di Cilea (Reggio Calabria), Il Comunale (Reggio Emilia), Il Teatro Filarmonico (Verona), Il Comunale (Modena), Grand Theater di Geneve, Rossini Opera Festival (Pesaro), Auditorium Nacional (Madrid), MiTo festival (Milano), Printemps des Arts (Monte Carlo), Baltic Seasons festival (Kaliningrad), Byzantine Culture festival (Istanbul).

 

Natalia Gavrilan cooperated with conductors like Roberto Abbado, Riccardo Muti, Alberto Zedda, Michele Mariotti, Ingo Metzmacher, Donato Renzetti, Enrique Mazzola, Paolo Carignani, Jonathan Webb, Yuri Temirkanov, Mikhaił Tatarnikov; and directors like Pier Luigi Pizzi, Paul Curran, Terry Gilliam, Cristof Loy, Emilio Sagi, Lluís Pasqual, Davide Michieletto, Marcello Gandini.

 

She took part in the following historical performances: Il Barbiere di Siviglia (dir. J.P. Ponnelle, Teatro alla Scala), Le nozze di Figaro (dir. G. Strehler, Teatro alla Scala), Cosi fan tutte (Dorabella, dir. G. Strehler, Teatro Piccolo di Milano), Cosi fan tutte (dir. M. Hampe, Teatro alla Scala). She sang Irena in G. Donizetti;’s Belisario (Istambul), Adalgisa (Sabadell), Romeo and Margherita in H. Berlioz’s Le damnation du Faust (Palermo). She was the cover of Joyce di Donato in G. Rossini’s La donna del lago (Elena, Metropolitan Opera). In October 2018 she performed Elcia in G. Rossinis’ Mose in Egitto (Novara and Pisa). In 2019 she debuted in Poland with the Rossinian recital of songs and arias (Krynica, Jan Kiepura Festiwal).

Since the year 2007 Natalia Gavrilan is engaged in vocals teaching activities. During the 5 years, she was invited as a vocal technique coach in Opera in Catalunia. 

 

She lives in Milano, she performs frequently with her husband, Paolo Stefano Berrnini, maestro collaboratore di sala in La Scala.
